Smashing Magazine で紹介されて以来海外のデザイン系blogで紹介される
のは珍しくなくなったけど、どの記事でもどういう書体かの説明がなくて、
These fonts are free software. Unlimited permission is granted to ...
のところを引き写してるだけなんで、DESIGN のページは英訳したほうが
いいと思って仮に訳してみた。誤訳・不自然な表現の指摘を願う。

This page describes scripts which compose M+ outline fonts with each weight variations:
Japanese text (fixed width), Latin (proportional width and fixed width).

Japanese text (monospaced)

M+ have two kana (かな) variation: M+ 1 is unique in the contrast of straight lines and
hand-drawn curves; M+ 2 takes in some traditional feature of kana script in the overall
modern sans-serif design. These two kana designs share the common design of kanji (漢字)
characters.

Proportional Latin alphabet

M+ P is aimed as clear and free form; M+ C is optimized to tight and coherent text.
Each have two variations: Type-1 (M+P Type-1, M+C Type-1) are intended to be used with
the Japanese letters of M+1; Type-2 have several glyphs different from Type-1 to match
with the design of the Japanese letters of M+2.

Fixed width Latin alphabet

M+ M emphasize the balance of natural letterform and high legibility. M+ MN is aimed
at a new distinctive design for a terminal font specialized to programming. There are
three variations: M+ M Type-1 and M+MN Type-1 are for combination with M+1-type Japanese
and M+2 has several altenative glyphs to be used with M+2-type Japanese.

Font files

Japanese and Latin letters shown above are combined into the 7 families:
four combinations of proportinal font families (M+ 1P, M+ 2P, M+ 1C, M+ 2C) and
three combinations of fixed (or biwidth) font families (M+ 1M, M+ 2M, M+1MN) are
included.

M+ 1P
The combination of fullwidth M+1 for Japanese and proportional M+P Type-1 for alphabets.
They are 7 weights from Thin to Black.
M+ 2P
The combination of fullwidth M+2 for Japanese and proportional M+P Type-2 for alphabets.
They are 7 weights from Thin to Black.
M+ 1C
The combination of fullwidth M+1 for Japanese and proportional M+C Type-1 for alphabets.
They are 7 weights from Thin to Black.
M+ 2C
The combination of fullwidth M+2 for Japanese and proportional M+C Type-2 for alphabets.
They are 7 weights from Thin to Black.
M+ 1M
The combination of fullwidth M+1 for Japanese and fixed halfwidth M+M Type-1 for alphabets.
They are 5 weights from Thin to Bold.
M+ 2M
The combination of fullwidth M+2 for Japanese and fixed halfwidth M+M Type-2 for alphabets.
They are 5 weights from Thin to Bold.
M+ 1MN
The combination of fullwidth M+1 for Japanese and fixed halfwidth M+MN Type-1 for alphabets.
TThey are 5 weights from Thin to Bold.
